How to calculate business days on HolidayNow
Follow this simple guide to use the tool and instantly get results for planning deadlines, deliveries, and reports.
Methodology
How HolidayNow counts business days
HolidayNow treats the selected start and end dates as an inclusive period. It counts Monday through Friday, removes listed public holidays for each selected country, and then reports the remaining working days. When two countries are selected, the results are kept separate so a shared holiday is not silently counted twice.
- 1. Normalize the period. The calendar establishes the first and last date to include.
- 2. Load holiday data. Public and long-weekend records are fetched for each selected country and year.
- 3. Exclude non-working dates. Weekends and matching holiday dates are removed from the business-day count.
- 4. Show the evidence. The result lists the dates, country codes, local names, and holiday type used in the calculation.
Data sources and limits
Use the result as a planning estimate
Holiday data is supplied by the Nager.Date public-holiday API and cached briefly by the application. It is a practical planning dataset, not a legal determination of whether an employer, school, bank, or local authority is closed.
Regional observances, substitute days, collective agreements, company calendars, and emergency closures can change the answer. Confirm important deadlines with the relevant government or organization before relying on a date.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is a 'business day'?
A conventional business day is Monday through Friday. Our calculator automatically excludes Saturdays, Sundays, and listed holidays from the time span.
Does the calculator support moving holidays like Easter?
Yes! Our real-time integration dynamically computes moving holidays such as Carnival, Corpus Christi, and Good Friday.
Can I calculate days in countries other than US and Brazil?
Absolutely. Our country selector supports over 100 globally mapped nations with their default holidays.
What are 'Long Weekends'?
We consider long weekends those times when only '1 bridge day' is needed to connect a holiday for a 4-day rest, or when holidays are adjacent to a weekend.
